Pocket AI privacy

Pocket AI collects nothing. It talks only to the Pocket AI server you sign in to, keeps its token in the device Keychain, and has no analytics or advertising SDK.

On this page

Pocket AI is an iPhone and iPad client for a self-hosted Pocket AI server. It requires no developer-operated backend or account and has no telemetry. This page describes what it does with your data.

No data collection

  • There is no developer-operated backend. The app connects only to the Pocket AI server you sign in to.
  • There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no cross-app tracking. The app has no third-party SDKs.
  • Your messages, attachments and conversations are never sent to the developer.

Your server

Everything you send goes from your device straight to the Pocket AI server you sign in to, whether you run it yourself or someone gave you access. This includes messages, photos, files, camera pictures and shared content. That server’s operator decides how it is stored and which AI providers it uses.

Your credentials

  • Signing in with email and password exchanges them for a per-device API token. The password is not stored.
  • The token is stored in the device Keychain. The share extension reads it from a shared Keychain group.
  • Sign out revokes the token on your server and removes it from the device.

Permissions

Nothing is requested at launch. iOS asks only when you first use the feature:

Permission Used for
Camera Taking a picture to attach to a message
Photos Picking pictures to attach to a message
Microphone and Speech Recognition Dictating message text. Apple’s speech recognition may process audio under Apple’s privacy policy
Local Network Connecting to a server on your home network
Notifications Alerts when an agent finishes, needs input or fails

Notifications

If you turn on notifications, the app registers a device token with your Pocket AI server. Your server sends notifications through Apple Push Notification service. Signing out unregisters the device.

Data stored on the device

Drafts, snippets, settings and cached conversations are stored on the device so the app opens quickly. Deleting the app removes them. Keychain items can survive deleting the app; sign out first to remove them.

Beta testing

In TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports, and feedback and screenshots you choose to send, with the developer.
