Pocket Notes is a self-hosted notes server that keeps your notes as plain Markdown files where you choose: on the server, in your Nextcloud, on any WebDAV server or in a folder. It answers the API of Nextcloud Notes, so everything Pocket Homelab does with Nextcloud Notes works with it: the library and the rich editor, folders, templates, attachments, daily notes and the Quick Note panel, podcast notes, event and photo notes, and Notes about this.
You can also receive this connection through Pocket Core, or keep configuring it individually.
Choose the app
Settings → Services → Notes starts with Notes app: Pocket Notes or Nextcloud Notes. The same choice is the first row of Settings → Notes. Everything about notes follows it at once: the Notes tab and sidebar item, the Home card, search, the quick actions, the Quick Note panel, and where podcast notes are sent. The other app’s settings are kept, so you can switch back at any time.
- In Pocket Notes, open Settings → Apps & API and create a token. It starts with
pn_and is shown once. - In Pocket Homelab: Settings → Services → Notes, choose Pocket Notes, paste its address (the one you open in a browser) and the token, then Test connection. It answers Pocket Notes OK with the number of notes, and the Notes section appears.

What to know
- Notes kept on the device belong to one account. After a switch, the library shows the other app’s notes, and edits made offline wait for the app they were written for.
- Links between notes are Nextcloud-style note addresses; Pocket Notes opens them, so they work in its web app too.
- The
/menu’s homelab tools that write to Nextcloud (a line to Tasks or Deck, a file from Nextcloud) still use the Nextcloud connection.
