Pocket Money

Pocket Money as the app behind the Money tab, Home tiles and quick entry instead of Firefly III, chosen under Settings → Services → Money.

Pocket Money is a small self-hosted finance server: accounts in any currency, quick entry, templates, subscriptions and bills, budgets and reports. It keeps a Firefly III-compatible API, so everything Pocket Homelab does with Firefly III and Firefly Pico works with it too: the Money tab, the Home tiles, Add Transaction, the search sheet, vehicle payments and offline entries.

With Pocket Garage, configure the Money integration in Garage itself. Garage creates and maintains the transaction on the server; do not add a duplicate in the app. LubeLogger keeps the app’s optional payment templates.

You can also receive this connection through Pocket Core, or keep configuring it individually.

Choose the app

Settings → Services → Money starts with Money app: Pocket Money or Firefly III. The fields under it follow the choice, and the other app’s settings are kept, so you can switch back at any time.

  1. In Pocket Money, open Settings → API & apps and create a token. It starts with pm_ and is shown once.
  2. In Pocket Homelab: Settings → Services → Money, choose Pocket Money, paste its address (the one you open in a browser, not /firefly) and the token, then Test connection. It answers Pocket Money OK with the number of accounts.

What works, and how

  • Accounts, transactions, this month’s spend, where it went, bills: read through Pocket Money’s Firefly API. Across all accounts is one total in your Pocket Money home currency, each balance converted by Pocket Money; when it has no exchange rate for a currency, the balances are listed per currency instead. Bills are its subscriptions; the bills summary on Home (due in 30 days, the next one) comes from them, with no subscriptions.json needed.
  • Add Transaction with your templates. Pocket Money’s templates are listed in Firefly Pico’s shape, so the assistant, one-tap templates and a template’s own currency work as before. The list is in Pocket Money’s order: pinned first, then the ones you book most, counted by Pocket Money on every device (each booking, also one queued offline, counts once). Templates (the Pico templates screen) creates, edits and deletes Pocket Money’s own templates.
  • Search: the search sheet uses Pocket Money’s own search. The ledger’s advanced search understands words and date_after:, date_before:, date_on:, category_is:, tag_is:, description_contains:, notes_contains:, has_no_category:true, external_id: and type:; any other Firefly operator is refused by name rather than ignored.
  • Editing a transaction goes through Pocket Money’s own API, which changes only what you changed. The other side of an expense or an income is a payee (Paid to, Paid by), not an account, and there is no Reconciled switch. Clearing the category clears it.
  • Deleting removes the transaction. A split receipt is edited and deleted in Pocket Money itself, where its parts are kept together.
  • LubeLogger vehicle payments: Pocket Money keeps no Firefly external id, so the payment’s reference is kept in the transaction’s notes as [external_id:…]. The app reads it back and hides it from the notes it shows.
  • Links (Open Pocket Money, Open in Pocket Money) go to Pocket Money’s own pages: the transaction, the subscriptions.
  • Adding: when a transaction is booked, Add Transaction shows a green card with a check mark, Added and its name, and the amount with the day it was booked (123.00 BAM · 19 Oct 2026). Saved offline it is orange and says it will be sent when Pocket Money can be reached; a failure is red with the reason.

Receipts

Pocket Money reads fiscal receipts from their QR code: Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republika Srpska) and Serbia with the shop and every item, Montenegro and Croatia with the total and time. This part is Pocket Money’s only: with Firefly III as the Money app none of it shows.

  • Scan Receipt opens the camera. Hold the phone about 20 cm over the receipt’s fiscal QR code: the picture is magnified so the code stays sharp (closer, the camera cannot focus). Tap the picture to focus there; the camera button on it takes a full-resolution photo, the surest way with a faded code. Only the link in the code goes to Pocket Money. Other codes on the receipt (the shop’s website, a loyalty app) are skipped, and the line under the camera names the one it skipped.
  • Check, then book. Pocket Money reads the receipt and the app shows it before anything is booked: the shop and place, the time, the total and how you paid, the items with their category, the category the booking would get and why (the shop’s category, most of it was groceries), the description, and Book on: Automatic (the shop’s account, or your card or cash account) or any account. Book it books it; Cancel goes back to the camera. A receipt you scanned before says when, with Open receipt, and books nothing.
  • Change categories before booking. In the preview the booking’s category and each item’s category are menus with the categories’ icons. Under the booking’s category is why Pocket Money chose it; each item says where its category came from: purple sparkles for the AI, group’s for its product group, yours for one you chose. What you change is kept once you tap Book it: an item’s category for that product on every receipt, the booking’s for this shop.
  • Choose a photo of the receipt reads the code from a photo or screenshot (the surest way with a small or faded code), and Paste takes a link the Camera app gave you. On the Mac there is no camera: choose an image file or paste the link.
  • After booking: Booked; linked when you had already typed the same amount that day, so it is not booked twice; Booked from the QR code when the tax office did not answer, with the shop and items following later.
  • Where: the Scan receipt button in the Money tab’s toolbar and its Receipts section, the QR button and a Scan a receipt’s QR code row in Add Transaction (and pasting a receipt link into its line offers Book this receipt in Pocket Money), the quick action Scan receipt for the floating button, and the Shortcuts action Book Receipt (books at once, without the preview).
  • A receipt shows the shop, how it was paid, Booked as (category with the reason, description, account), the items with their group and category, and the total per group. When the items’ categories now point elsewhere it says The receipt now says … with Use it. Each item’s category is a menu: the choice is remembered for that product on every receipt (AI marks one the AI sorted, group’s one that comes from its group). Split by the items’ categories or Join the split back; Book it for a receipt whose transaction was deleted; Delete… removes the receipt and keeps its transaction, or deletes both.
  • What you buy (Money tab → Receipts): the items of your receipts in groups such as Milk, Bread or Coffee, with what you spent on each, how many receipts, how much (14 l) and the average price per unit, for this month, three months, a year or all time. A group lists its products and every purchase. With no groups yet, Add suggested groups adds the common groceries; their words (mlijeko, mleko, milk) are changed in Pocket Money.
  • A product (tap an item on a receipt, or a product in a group): how many times and how often you buy it, how much, the price now and its change since the first purchase, the cheapest and dearest purchase, when you will probably buy it next, the price per shop (cheapest first), month by month, and every purchase.
  • Product check (What you buy → Product check): Pocket Money places products without a group once a day, by the groups’ words, next to similar products and, if you turned it on, with the AI. The page shows each run, what it placed and how, what is still without a group, and the groups it suggests: Create makes one with its products. Run it now runs it at once.
  • Receipts lists every scanned receipt; the search also finds item names.
  • Receipts and transactions link to each other: a receipt (from Receipts, a scan, or a purchase on a product’s page) has Open transaction under Booked as. A transaction booked from a receipt shows the receipt right under its amount: every item, The tax office’s copy and Open receipt (categories, splitting, deleting). Every purchase on a product’s or group’s page opens its receipt.
  • A receipt’s page (Open receipt) shows the whole receipt, as Pocket Money’s web app does: the shop with its address and Show on the map, the total, date and payment, what it was booked as and why (with Use it when the receipt now says otherwise), the total per group, every item with its group and category (change it there, ✨ for the AI’s), Payment with each method, VAT, the receipt number and the cashier, The tax office’s copy and the Printed receipt, Split by the items’ categories or Join the parts back into one, and Delete receipt…. In the transaction lists a 🧾 marks the ones with a receipt. On the Mac a transaction’s detail shows the first items with links to the full receipt and the tax office’s copy.
  • Booking answers at once; Pocket Money sorts new items with the AI and finds the shop’s map pin right after, and the booking follows when that changes its category, unless you changed it yourself.
