Pocket Guitar

v0.6.0 · Self-hosted · MIT

Your guitar tabs and practice, on your own server.

Pocket Guitar opens Guitar Pro, MusicXML and alphaTex files and plays them back with every track. Loop the hard bars, let the speed trainer bring them up to tempo and follow the notes on a live fretboard. Every minute you play is logged by itself, with a daily goal and streaks.

  • Included in Pocket Box
  • Sign in with Pocket Core
  • Works with alphaTab and Navidrome and Songsterr

Player

Play along, one loop at a time.

Drag across the tab to loop a few bars, slow them down and save them as a named section. The fretboard under the tab shows what is being played, and a click on a note jumps there.

Sections

From slow to up to tempo.

Every song keeps its own sections with your best speed for each. Switch on the speed trainer and it starts slow, then speeds up by itself after a few clean loops until it reaches your goal.

  • Jump to a section with the keys 1 to 9
  • Start speed, step, loops per step and goal are yours to set
  • Best speed kept per section and per song

Practice

Every minute counts itself.

The player logs your practice as you play, and lessons or scales can be added by hand. See today against your goal, your streak, minutes per day, where your time went and when you usually play.

  • Week, month and year views with your daily goal as a line
  • Time per song and per kind of practice
  • A habit ticked in Pocket Habits when the day is long enough

Library

All your tabs in one place.

Drop in files, add songs from a Songsterr search with one click, or point the app at folders in Pocket Files and new tabs appear by themselves. Mark where you are with each song and filter by it.

  • Want to learn, learning, polishing or can play it
  • Filter by tuning or tag, search by song or artist
  • Favourites, difficulty, notes and a goal speed per song

And the rest of it

  • Play along with the record

Link a song to its recording in your Navidrome and it plays in sync with the tab at your practice speed, alone or together with the tab's own sound.

  • Tuner and metronome

A tuner with thirteen tunings and reference tones, a metronome with subdivisions, accents and its own speed trainer, and a timer for practice without a tab.

  • Setlists

Put songs in order and play them one after another.

  • Practice plans and reminders

Ask for a practice plan for a song or a section through Pocket AI or your own OpenAI key, and get reminders and a weekly report through Apprise, ntfy or a webhook.

Install

One container, one volume.

Pocket Guitar is a single Go binary with a SQLite file. Open it, create the first account and drop in your tabs. With Pocket Core, people sign in once and their Files folders, Habits and Navidrome connect without tokens.

On a Pocket Box it is already installed and signed in through Pocket Core.
